Have you ever felt unqualified for something God was asking you to do? Maybe you’ve felt too weak, or too aware of your own limitations. Gideon knew that feeling. When God called him to lead Israel, Gideon’s first response was basically, “I’m not the right person.” He felt weak, unqualified, and completely out of his depth. He didn’t hide that from God, and that honesty is part of what makes his story so powerful.
So often, people assume their weakness makes them unusable. They think God works best through confident, capable people who seem to have it all together. But Gideon’s story reminds them that weakness is not a barrier to God’s power. In many ways, it is exactly where God’s power shines.
God was not asking Gideon to be impressive. He was asking Gideon to trust him. Maybe that is what God is inviting someone into today too. Not pretending to be strong, but bringing limitations honestly to him. Not waiting until they feel ready, but letting their need drive them closer to his strength.
Pray: God, you know where I feel weak and unprepared. Meet me there. Help me stop relying on myself and start trusting your strength more fully. Use even my weakness to show your power. Amen.
