Day 2 | Deborah: Courageous Leadership

Read:

Deborah shows us that strong leadership isn’t always doing hard things for others. Sometimes it looks like equipping others to do hard things themselves.

Barak knew what God was asking him to do, but he hesitated. Instead of shaming him or taking over, Deborah went with him. She reminded him that God was already ahead of him and that he didn’t have to face the moment alone.

That kind of leadership matters. Deborah didn’t do anything for Barak—but her presence and her encouragement helped him do what he needed to do. She let him borrow her courage. And as a result, Barak had the opportunity to learn and grow from taking that step to trust and obey God.

Who might need to borrow your courage for a little while? Instead of racing to do the hard thing and eliminate fear or difficulty, what would it look like to encourage them in the steps they need to take?

Pray: God, thank you for the people who have encouraged me when I was afraid. Help me be that kind of person for someone else. Show me where I can lend courage, speak faith, and walk beside someone today. Amen.
