Read:
The disciples were a group of people that walked through the land of Israel with Jesus, learning from him, spending time with him, and witnessing his miracles. They saw him heal. They saw him forgive sin. They saw him multiply a small meal to feed the multitudes. But one day, when they tried to do the same, they couldn’t heal the boy (Matthew 17:14-21). Jesus told them if they had had faith as small as a mustard seed, they could have healed him.
In this scene from Mark 5, the disciples are again walking with Jesus, this time walking to Jairus’s house to heal his daughter. People are pressing in from every side, wanting their own miracle. One woman, who had suffered from her disease for many years, touched the hem of Jesus’ cloak.
Here is mustard seed faith in action. She knew Jesus and what he had the power to do. She believed that even a small touch would heal her. And it did.
As we saw in Leah’s story, our circumstances don’t always change. Sometimes we have to endure hardship for a long time. Sometimes we can’t see 10 feet in front of us, and we have to trust. But we know the one in whom we trust – Jesus – is powerful to save, powerful to heal, and powerful to change our circumstances. And powerful to change us.
What do you need from God today? Maybe it is something tangible, like finances to pay for the car repair or a job. Maybe it’s intangible, like peace and strength. Spend time with God, sitting quietly and seeking to know him more. We can have faith because we know the person in whom we trust.
