Blood
There are lots of details in this chapter about blood. It is used in a ceremony to let God know that a person was sorry for a sin committed unknowingly. With 613 laws, it would have been easy to accidentally do something wrong. The ceremony caused God to overlook the sin. The emphasis on blood is explained in Leviticus 17:11 where we are told that blood represents life, and sin cannot be paid for without the giving of life.
The sacrifices in the Leviticus are preparing people for Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. His life was given to pay for our sin. Blood is not a pleasant topic, but it is life-giving. It gives us life today as it flows through our bodies, and Jesus’ blood gives us eternal life in heaven.
