There are lots of details in this chapter including the measuring of the Temple, two witnesses, olive trees and lampstands. Bible teachers debate the meanings of each, but there are a couple of things that are very clear. First, as seen in the witnesses, God will continue to try to reach the people who have rejected Him, just as He has always done throughout human history. The second is that, ultimately, Jesus will win. We have read of many terrible things that have and will happen, but God is never defeated, and He will rule over all.
These two major ideas of God continuing to reach out to those who have rejected him and God’s ultimate victory should be the basis of our lives. We are placed here on the earth to represent Jesus to others, (2 Corinthians 5:20) and we do so knowing what will happen in the end. You may be the only witness to Jesus that someone may know. You may be someone’s best chance to be a part of God’s kingdom.
