Read: 1 Kings 21
Ahab followed the same pattern as David, having abundance and still wanting something he can’t have. Like David, it led to murder. Like David, he was sorry for what he did, so the outcome is delayed.
It is striking to see the contrast between the power that Ahab has and yet seems to be powerless to resist his wife’s evil plans. It is all too common to find people who are wildly successful in one area of life and a miserable failure in another. The person who can run a successful company, but whose family is a mess. The person who gives great advice, but doesn’t follow it. Archeologists tell us that Ahab was one of the greatest builders of ancient times, yet we remember him for his failures. Do we want to be remembered for building great things or a great life?
