With the Midianites defeated, three of the tribes of Israel decide they would like to live on the Midianites’ land on the east side of the Jordan River. Moses is concerned that they will settle down in their new homes and not help the other tribes defeat their enemies on the west side of the Jordan. Since they commit to continuing to fight, they are given their land to the east.
Moses foresees that once some of the tribes get their land, they may lose interest in helping others get theirs. Christians can be like that too. We can get settled into a comfortable life and forget about those who still need Jesus. Continuing to reach others can involve risk and sacrifice. Will you commit to continuing the fight even though God has already provided for you?
