Second Timothy is written by Paul to a young pastor named Timothy, just like 1st Timothy. This letter is written as Paul is in prison and about to be executed. Paul is obviously pleased with how Timothy is continuing in his faith and wants him to grow even stronger. He wants to see Timothy again and may be suggesting he travel to Rome to say goodbye. Persecution will make it difficult for Timothy to be open with his faith, but Paul wants him to be unashamed of Jesus.
When we come to the end of our lives, what is going to be most important to us? It might be that we made lots of money and were able to pass along a large inheritance. But it’s more likely we will want to pass along an inheritance of faith, godly character, and positive impact to our physical and spiritual children. If that is our priority, then we will need to put a plan in place to begin making that happen today.
