The one who is persecuting followers of Jesus now becomes a follower himself. Understandably, Ananias is afraid to meet with Saul. It is hard for him to believe that Saul has a genuine interest in following Jesus. Although it takes a miracle to turn Saul around, his strong opposition to Jesus shows he is the type of person to not just believe in something, but to believe wholeheartedly enough to do something about it.
