The chapters between yesterday and today detail more sacrifices. Today we read about the ceremony to get priests ready to serve. An important aspect of this ceremony is that the priests need to be cleansed. They are sinners, just like the rest of the people. Before they can come between God and the people, they need to be in a right relationship with him. Hebrews 9:7 points this out as a contrast between the priests and Jesus. Jesus never sinned and didn’t need to be cleansed. His death was not for himself, but for us.
How much better it is to have Jesus as our priest! Israel dealt with God through flawed priests; we have a perfect one.
